Physical Description Tall and slightly stocky, Tynan is just about your average Irish gal. Except for the Arabic beauty she inherited from her mother. She has faded scars across much of her body that she doesn’t talk about, not because she doesn’t want to, but because she doesn’t find them relevant to any conversation. Her hair is kept long and generally styled back so that it won’t get in her way when she’s creating.

Her left hand seems to have several additions to it, all experimental in nature, but all connecting directly to bone or muscle within her hand. And yet, it still functions normally.

General Overview Tynan is an inventor by nature. While she does like to have fun with her peers, she likes being in the background, creating. She thrives on finding new ways to improve tools, adding new functionality to items, and generally tinkering with new ideas. Her favourite past time is inflicting pain, on others or herself, it doesn’t matter. She takes pleasure in it either way.

She learned as a child to navigate her way through new places, to internally map areas. So, she prides herself on being able to find her way around new environments.

Ambitions Though she is content to just stay in the background inventing, Tynan also has ambitions of being a master inventor. Of bringing her inventions to the forefront of the universe.
Hobbies & Interests Bringing pleasure and pain to the world is her biggest hobby, aside from inventing new tools and toys.

Personal History Tynan Nadar Whalen is the only child of Duncan Whalen. Or at least, that she knows of. She was raised by a nanny named Gracie O’Malley. The only thing Tynan knew of her mother was that she was named Nadar and was Arabic and a slave in the Whalen family mines. Her father, a businessman of some sort, was rarely home and when he was, he enjoyed telling her of the world and reminding her that she was never supposed to be. These mixed signals are what Gracie related to being the foundation of Tynan’s sadomasochism.

However, one good thing she gained from her father, was her love of tinkering. The man may have been gone most of the time, but he did like to tinker in his spare time when he was home. When he noticed that Tynan was interested in what he was doing, he taught her some of the basics of tool use, then provided her with her own things so she would not damage his.

Aside from Gracie and the biweekly visits from her father, Tynan didn’t have anyone. They lived in a small cottage on a large plot of land that used to be used as a farm. She learned early on how to entertain herself and just how much pain she could tolerate before she needed to get help. It was easy to get lost in the woodland surrounding the cottage, and so Tynan also learned to make mental maps of the land. This helped in her tinkering as well, since she was able to make mental maps, so to speak, of the items she was taking apart. She could quickly reassemble a device before anyone even knew she’d taken it apart.

When she was eleven, Gracie passed away in her sleep. At this point, Duncan had stopped visiting regularly and would appear from time to time. Tynan survived for three months on her own before he came to visit next and found a decaying body in Gracie’s bed and his daughter gone. He’d been searching for her for an hour when she finally returned with a sled full of food harvested from the woodland and a pile of small rodent carcasses. This was the only time she’d seen him panicked.

Though he was furious that no one had been to check on the cottage when Gracie hadn’t made her weekly trips to the village, Duncan could do little more than find a place for Tynan in a boarding school. Most of them didn’t have space for her, so he was forced to send her to the Terran Star Navy Academy. She was enrolled in the Junior Loyalty Training program and sent to live in a boarding house near the campus. At first, she hated being stuffed in a room with so many others. But eventually, she realized that if she just stayed quiet and did her own thing, the other kids would quickly get bored with her and move on. Those that didn’t could be chased away by her laughter as they inflicted pain upon her, or she on them.

By the time she joined the Terran Star Navy Academy’s School of Engineering, most of her peers were scared of her. Tynan didn’t mind this, it gave her more quiet time to work on her inventions. She was never very good at school. Her grades often fell just on the cusp of acceptable. Yet, her teachers refused to let her slide down below passing grades. The girl had a brilliant mind for engineering and inventing. Often times making one of the teacher’s items more useful or repairing something none of her peers had the skill for yet.

Upon her graduation, Tynan was high enough in standing to get assigned to a ship, but low enough that she did not get the best assignment. The ISS Ataxia was a barely functioning survey ship at best. The Chief Engineer didn’t care to actually take care of the ship, so it had fallen into disarray. It could barely limp around the system let alone the quadrant. The man in control of the ship’s functionality was too obsessed with bedding the Captain and taking her place. His place in her pecking order, however, made it quite a feat. And because their Chief didn’t care, or actively broke things to get the Captain’s attentions, the rest of the Engineering team, comprised of a whopping four engineers, didn’t care to do their jobs either.

So, while he was dealing with gaining entrance to her secret chambers, Tynan slowly began repairing the things he and his subordinates had begun neglecting in their pursuits of happiness. At first, it wasn’t noticed that small things had begun working properly again. Not until someone successfully replicated a cup of coffee so strong it curled his toes. Normally, they’d get tepid water with a hint of flavour. Now, however, they got scalding hot coffee so strong it looked like mud in their cups.

Of course, the Chief Engineer was quick to take credit for this feat when the Captain came looking for whomever had given her crew what had essentially equated to ‘energy juice’. Tynan, not wanting to become the next target for over ambitious people, kept quiet about her role in the changes. However, it wasn’t long before the Chief figured out who it was that actually fixed the ship. In his attempts to punish Tynan, he only served to increase her pain tolerance and turn her more to sadomasochism.

The Captain, now aware that her new junior engineer was actually responsible for her ship purring like a kitten, started to turn a blind eye to Tynan’s extra tinkering. She also planted the idea of bringing the current Chief to his demise to gain more tinkering time. Unfortunately for Tynan, someone else beat her to the job. Discouraged, she requested a transfer. This time making it to the ISS Albatross. While it was a much better ship than the Ataxia, it too was mostly neglected. If it wasn’t required to make the ship move, it was ignored.

Within a month, Tynan had repaired secondary systems that did little aside from increasing the crew’s pleasure. But, it had kept her busy and out of the way of the other ambitious engineers. Two months into her time on the Albatross, the Assistant Chief Engineer successfully usurped the Chief. Tynan paid no mind, as it didn’t affect her ability to tinker and play. At least not until the new Chief actually wanted certain things done and the only one he seemed to like picking on was Tynan.

Getting another transfer, this time to the ISS Crucible, Tynan played things differently. She did just enough actual work to look like she cared about her job, but never did anything fully. The other thing she did was plant ideas on how to fix things in the minds of her peers in order for them to actually complete the job. If they couldn’t, she would log them as the ones having worked on the system and do the task herself. This gave her ample time to hide away in one of the smaller, more overlooked, labs and tinker with her own inventions.

Unfortunately, the Crucible met some troubles and was damaged beyond repair. This led to Tynan transferring to the ISS Juno. She was quick to learn that she couldn’t do what she’d done before on the Crucible. The Assistant Chief Engineer paid too much attention. So, her only option was to finally get her hands ‘wet’ so to speak and remove him from the picture. This was the first time that Tynan learned just how much fun one can have while taking out their competition.

However, it took too much time away from her tinkering and brought far too much attention to her. A thing she didn’t quite enjoy. No, she wanted the eyes to be on her inventions. Eventually, though, the dust settled and Tynan was able to melt back into the background. Accomplishing her daily tasks quickly and getting back to her inventing.

When the Juno was destroyed as well, she found a home on the ISS Yamato as Chief Engineering Officer. A position that kept eyes on her, but also afforded her the authority to demand her underlings do the daily maintenance. All which allowed her to continue her inventing and tinkering in the labs. She learned quickly to set up traps to stop would be assassins and allow her to continue on in peace.
